Law Enforcement Guidelines
These guidelines are intended for law enforcement agencies and other competent public authorities seeking information from Valo in connection with an official investigation.
Valo is an online dating service operated by Kotisataman Valo Oy. We are committed to protecting the privacy and safety of our users while complying with valid legal obligations and lawful requests from competent authorities.
Law Enforcement Requests
Valo may disclose user information to law enforcement or other competent authorities when required or permitted by applicable law.
Requests for user information must be submitted by an authorized law enforcement agency or other competent authority and should be sent from an official government or law enforcement email address to:

Requests should include, where applicable:
The name, agency and contact information of the requesting official;
The legal authority and basis for the request;
The specific user, account or other information being requested;
Sufficient information to identify the relevant Valo account, such as an email address, user ID or other known account information;
The nature of the investigation and, where legally appropriate, its relationship to the requested information;
The applicable legal process, court order, warrant or other supporting documentation; and
Any applicable response deadline.
Requests should be specific and limited to the information necessary for the stated lawful purpose.
User Data and Disclosure
The information available to Valo depends on the user’s use of the Service and our applicable data-retention practices.
Valo reviews requests for user information to determine whether they are valid, appropriately authorized and consistent with applicable law. Valo may request additional information or clarification when necessary.
We will only disclose information that we are legally required or permitted to disclose.
Preservation Requests
Authorized law enforcement authorities may request preservation of specified account information in connection with an official investigation.
Preservation requests should clearly identify the relevant account and the information to be preserved and should specify the applicable legal basis and requested preservation period.
A preservation request does not itself constitute authorization for Valo to disclose the preserved information. Appropriate legal process may be required before information can be disclosed.
Emergency Requests
If law enforcement reasonably believes that there is an emergency involving an imminent risk of death or serious physical harm to a person, an emergency disclosure request may be submitted to:

The request should clearly state that it concerns an emergency and provide sufficient information for Valo to assess the circumstances, including the nature of the emergency, the person or persons at risk, the information requested and how the requested information may help prevent the threatened harm.
Valo evaluates emergency requests on a case-by-case basis in accordance with applicable law.
International Requests
Valo operates in multiple countries. Requests from authorities outside the jurisdiction of the Valo legal entity holding the relevant information may be subject to applicable international legal procedures or other requirements under applicable law.
Where necessary, Valo may require the requesting authority to use the appropriate legal assistance or cross-border process.
User Notification
Where permitted by law, Valo may notify affected users about requests for their information. We may refrain from providing notice where notification is prohibited by law or where we reasonably determine that notification would create a risk of harm, compromise an investigation or otherwise be inappropriate under applicable law.
Data Protection
Valo handles personal data in accordance with applicable data-protection legislation, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), where applicable.
These guidelines do not create any obligation for Valo to disclose information beyond what is required or permitted by applicable law.
